USAID Oceans and Partners Bring Traceability Solutions to Thailand’s Fisheries

On May 14-16, 2019, USAID Oceans and its partner, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), held a workshop with the Department of Fisheries (DOF) of Thailand to assess further opportunities to advance the country’s traceability systems, exchange lessons learned on the development and implementation of electronic catch documentation (eCDT) systems, and gather Thailand’s feedback on technical guidance that the program is developing for continued eCDT implementation and expansion across Southeast Asia.

USAID Oceans Advances Regional Readiness for Traceability System Design, Development with Catch Documentation Assessments

Since its launch in 2015, USAID Oceans has worked to engage ASEAN and Coral Triangle Member Countries to advance their capacity to accomplish end-to-end seafood traceability. Over 2017 and 2018, USAID Oceans partnered with Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam to assess their current catch documentation and traceability capabilities and to develop a road map for implementing electronic traceability systems compliant with U.S. and EU market requirements in the near-term and other importing country requirements in the long-term.
