USAID Oceans Brings Additional Vessels “Online” in Indonesia CDT Pilot

USAID Oceans conducted a second installment of at-sea data capture technology and provided technical assistance to its First Mover partners in Bitung during October 22- 26, 2018. The installed Pointrek technology is a two-way communication vessel monitoring system (VMS) with real-time catch reporting that enables fishers to capture seafood traceability data directly at its point of catch.

Laos Fishery Experts Hold National Gender Training, Highlighting Importance of Gender Mainstreaming in Fisheries Management

As is common across many countries in Southeast Asia, in Laos women play a key role in the processing and marketing of fish. Recognizing the importance of gender roles and equity in the fisheries sector, in early 2018 the Laos Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF) requested support from USAID Oceans to conduct a National Training Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming in Livestock and Fisheries Management and Development.

SNAPSHOTS: USAID Oceans Launches Small-Scale Traceability Technology in the Philippines

USAID Oceans made leaps forward this month in establishing full-chain seafood traceability with the installation of technology to bring small-scale fishers online in the Philippines. With partner, the Futuristic Aviation and Marine Enterprises (FAME), USAID Oceans installed 30 small-scale vessel transponders with “First Mover” fisherfolk and five connection gateways that bring connectivity to remote and at-sea areas surrounding the program’s General Santos City learning site.
